Pictorial creativity of Elena (Helen) Semeclit enjoys smooth evolution and serenity.
Widely traveling across the world, realizing its creative concepts in various genres, the author is dedicated to a theme of landscape. However, the answer to the question whether Elena (Helen) travels to paint or paints to travel is not very important for admirers and spectators.
Causes and effects have run into the organic whole, while we are introduced to a refined pleasure of contemplating pictures of close and native or distant and exotic corners of the world.
Subjects, formats, coloration and painting techniques are constantly changing. The early period is devoted to the middle areas of Russia.
Images of ancient architecture are represented by sketches transmitting various states of nature and picturesque effects of space. Known architectural ensembles are harmoniously combined with natural motives. In the European cycle that praises Prague, Florence, Toledo and Rome, the artist chooses unexpected foreshortenings and the high points of view. It allows introducing into pictorial structure a theme of roofs, distant panoramas. The present period is devoted to new impressions from visiting China. For a long time the author starved for changes and updating in creative process. The embodiment of the dream has shaken the artist, a theme of spicy exoticism of the East has overflowed picturesque paintings, and therefore Elena's works are an organic continuation of her creative search. For a small period of time such cycles as etudes of the Manshan mountains, city views of Southern Provinces were created, as well as tropical still-life paintings, landscapes of the Tibet Mountains in the vicinities of Lhasa.
Her painting has found the response in hearts of admirers of Graphic Arts. Public was especially attracted by refined golden and nacreous colors, positive build of pacification and contemplation of beauty of the surrounding world. It would be desirable to trust, that this fragile irrational theme will miraculously proceed in her future works.

My acquaintance to Elena Semeklit has taken place 13 years ago on the first lesson
in painting – it was in September, 1993. I taught then at first-year students, and Lena was among students of my group. I at once noted her enthusiasm for painting. Lena wanted and had a knack for learning.  Working hard independently, Lena aspired to expand her knowledge, trying to probe deep into the subject and to understand mystery of “picturesque language”. Her schoolwork in arts and crafts has not passed for anything. Ideas about the form and decorative properties of subjects helped her to find the necessary plastic and color decision in work on a still-life. She has a gift to see colors of the future picture in nature.
Years of study are left behind. Ahead is a long independent way to art.
Numerous departures for painting in the open air (plein air painting), visiting of the old Russian relics which have incorporated colors of different epochs, traveling on cities of Europe and exotic countries, each one of which are unique in its own way, - all this provides nutriment for search of the picturesque decision of the future pictures. Her works painted in the first years after graduation of the institute: “Spaso-Andronnikov monastery”, "Lilac", "Outskirts of a village" are especially to my liking. These things are executed in a silver-sienna color which creates sensation of warmth and coziness.
Later on, after visiting Europe a number of works were executed in the same picturesque manner.
Easy shades of nacreous give refinement to her picturesque canvasses from the Chinese cycle, - “Pearl of the Yellow sea”, “Spring winds”.
There are beautiful works with decorative inception in the possession of Elena Semeklit. Especially it would be desirable to note her work "Round dance". Motive of this canvas is the most simple, - city roofs. But the composition of them is plastically built so, that the impression of rhythmical action is created.
Elena always aspires to find graphic means for the decision of a concrete motive of a landscape or a still-life that they were in harmony with her attitude. It allows her to avoid sample recurrence for the account of once found method.
Long-term association with Lena, conversations with her on the most different themes concerning the fine arts, discussion of her works convince me more and more that Lena has creative credo so necessary for a professional painter. Constant readiness to study, to perfect practice skills, to develop the art taste, - all those are qualities of a real creative nature.
Ancient Wise men spoke, that he had luck that had a Teacher, but even luckier was the one who had found a Disciple. I would like to think, that in Lena Semeklit I have found the Disciple.
